Use the Aggie Network. There are several Facebook groups to help you stay connected locally and in College Station.
Utilize the Aggie Mom network. If your student gets stuck somewhere, find the local chapter, and someone will help them. One student from San Angelo lived with another Aggie family he didn’t know during his summer internship through the Aggie Moms’ Club.
Aggie Moms’ Clubs are great resources to help your students find places to live if they relocate to different cities.
Get a medical power of attorney for your children.
Rent the micro chill unit. Much easier than bringing your own back and forth.
If your freshman lives on campus, you can choose the 100 meal plan. If you don’t, they will automatically enroll you in the 135 meal plan. You can lower it if this has already been done.
Don’t sign a lease without looking at it first.
No matter what day you move your Aggie in, it will be 110 degrees outside and/or raining.
Buy your Aggie a good umbrella and rain boots.
If your daughter has curly hair, tell her to embrace it! It’s almost always humid or raining.
Bring everything you need with you. C.S. sells out of all the popular items FAST!
Get used to the sound of the train! It runs all day and night!
Sign up for Code Maroon App on your phone.
Know when parking registration opens up and apply as soon as it opens.
If your Aggie parks in an on-campus parking garage – move your car on game days to where they tell you the night before, or you will get a ticket.
Be careful parking around campus. They tow vehicles day and night. If it says no parking. Don’t!
Your kids will get parking tickets! Whether or not they tell you???
Buy your student Shout Color Catchers. Otherwise, all their clothes will turn pink with all their new maroon clothing!
If your financial situation changes, the financial aid office can recalculate your EFC.
Tuition depends on the type of plan you choose.
Get pictures of the Aggie Barn before they repaint the new year. (W/ landowners permission)
Use the Favor app to send your student goodies for a birthday or just because.
It’s ok to Q-Drop a class and retakes it. It does not mean failure.
Being an Aggie is like being in a cult. Encourage your student to embrace and learn the traditions, especially as a freshman. They can continue with those they enjoy and let go of any they do not.
Corps freshmen are “dorks/nerds/grunts etc.” but seniors with boots are COOL!
Go to games or tailgate! There’s nothing like C.S. on a game weekend.
Encourage your Aggie to stay there until the holidays.
Be prepared to pay $250- $300+ a night on game days or special weekends.
Get a P.O. Box at the U.S. Post office on campus instead of the dorm.
You can ship a good-sized box via Fed Ex ground from S.A. by 6:00 pm, and it will get there the next day by noon for only $10-$15.
If your FedEx box is scheduled to arrive and your Aggie won’t be home, and you have concerns it will go missing; you can call FedEx and have them hold it at their office for pick up. They usually hold shipments for five days…
Embrace Aggieland/College Station. You and you Aggie will have a close relationship with it for the next four to five years and an ongoing relationship for a lifetime…
